Every wedding I get to be a part of is special. I love everything that my couples bring to the table.
Every once in a while, a really special intimate wedding comes along…and this private elopement in Boulder is a great example!
Maureen & Tim had a small rain-filled wedding ceremony on a trail near their home in Boulder, CO.
Tell us about your first date!
Tim had lost his wife, who he cared deeply for, and told me that he really needed a friend. He asked me to dinner.
We shared about our lives and family, then we went to a book store to look at maps for travel.
I was leaving in July on a trip with friends. He joined the group of friends.
We became fast friends and have travel abroad many times together to see the world. Our first date led to us being best friends for life.
How I met Maureen and Tim is an interesting story! Let’s just say, it’s a small world.
For starters, I know one of Maureen’s sons. Cole (her son) is the bearded guy, and his girlfriend is Megan, and the cute baby is theirs.
He was a bartender at my favorite neighborhood bar for years! Megan started working their later. They started dating and have moved on from bartending there, but we’ve stayed in touch.
When Maureen called I was so excited!! After being on the phone a few minutes she mentioned she was a recently retired teacher from Arapahoe High School. I said, “that’s funny, my son went there“.
Come to find out she was his English teacher for most of his year there! It is such a small world.
Anyhow, onto their amazing intimate wedding….
The day of the elopement, we met at their home in Boulder. We did a few casual photos at their home, giving the day such a relaxed and easy start for everybody!
(Remember Cole and his adorable little girl? )
It was cloudy all morning, and then before the ceremony it started raining….and raining….and raining!
We are SO glad that we decided to do the formal portraits beforehand, before the rain kicked up. I love backdrops like this for formal portraits.
How did the proposal happen?
Tim asked me one night at home and has proposed many times again after I said yes when we have been out hiking together.
What are some hobbies or activities you love doing as a couple?
Hiking, biking , golfing ,cooking ,reading , yoga, touring, exploring and adventuring in foreign Countries.
What’s your favorite moment from your relationship so far?
Riding the helm of a boat together exploring the Galapagos island knowing it was a once in a life time
I had to wrap my camera in my rain coat, and my assistant held an umbrella over me the best she could…though the umbrella really only protected the camera (not me!).
I love how Maureen and Tim chose to go forward with their private outdoor wedding ceremony, despite the weather. They invented umbrellas for a reason!
The ceremony was so full of love! Everybody laughed, smiled…there were even a few tears. When you see these kinds of emotions at a wedding ceremony, you know without a doubt that it’s right. This event could not have been more beautiful, even under umbrellas.
The unity ceremony was very touching, I love how they invited participation, signifying not only their unity, but the unity between their families.
If you could pick one word to describe your wedding ceremony, what would it be?
Joyous
What are you most looking forward to in marriage?
We are looking forward to presenting us and our family as a team that moves forward to living life and loving each other.
How did you two choose your venue for your wedding?
We wanted a simple, lovely wedding that included only family that expressed our love of nature.
What was your most memorable moment from your wedding day?
The most memorable part was standing in the rain which is said to be Good Luck and saying to each other how much we cared and loved each other and were committing our lives to each other in front of our five boys, daughter in-law and grand baby.
It was SO rainy that they had to sign their marriage license in the back of an SUV.
That’s got to make a good party story someday! I climbed into the back of the car to get a few photos.
Maureen and Tim’s small private outdoor wedding was followed with a sweet, simple reception in their home (just as they wanted) and perfect decor using a gold and navy color scheme.
What advice do you have for couples planning their wedding now?
I would advise a wedding planner to lessen the stress of the day , so you treasure your day the rest of your life.
Are you going on a honeymoon? If so, where are you going?
We went on a honeymoon in the Utah canyons where we just hiked, explored, talked and loved each other.
What are your future plans together?
Exploring new destinations and overtime watching our family grow and having more grandchildren.
